The Japan Pediatric Society (JPS) believes that the safety and well-being of all children should always be the top priority. We, the JPS, are deeply distressed by the immense suffering of the most vulnerable children in conflict zones and express our serious concern for their safety and well-being. It is extremely regrettable that children’s hospitals were embroiled and severely damaged. We strongly assert that these children should be protected under international humanitarian law.
Essential supplies and environments necessary for the survival, growth, and development of infants and children should be ensured. Additionally, appropriate medical care should be provided to infants and children who are injured or suffering from illness. Even if they are physically unharmed, young children often carry significant psychological trauma, and special attention must be given to their inner feelings, such as grief, fear, and anxiety.
The JPS will continue to provide heartfelt support to infants and children in difficult circumstances, and will strive to ensure that all infants and children receive fair, equal, and dignified care.
